Is 1.6 petrol or 2.0 diesel more MSE for me?

I do 30 miles a day about 25 of which are on 50-70 mph A road. I am looking to buy a replacement Zafira after my last one was totalled.
A few questions:
Is a 2.0 DTI worth buying in terms of fuel efficiency versus up front cost compared to the 1.6 petrol that I had?
Also what sort of mileage is considered "acceptable" for a 2002-2004 range car?
One other question, does a DTI have a cambelt to replace like my old car did?
Thanks in advance
