Missed accepted appeal email - now with debt collector

Hi I received a PCN from Bank Park due to a major keying issue in January. Wrong reg in parking app.

I did appeal but stupidly missed the email with successful appeal (did take 15 days to reply to initial appeal) and now missed the 14 days to pay a reduced rate. Now the PCN is with ZZPS - I am on letter 1.

Do I have to pay the now £100 + £70 admin fee - it feels unfair with there being no loss of earnings to the original carpark.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

The amount is voided because they didn't reduce the offer out of the goodness of their heart; they had to due to being obligated to follow their trade association code. They can't revert back to the original contract as if they were making a goodwill gesture based on that contract. They're obligated to vary the contract.

I would go old school and post the parking company a cheque for £20 and mark it in full and final settlement.

Any court claim would be then be a case of "They wanted £20 so I gave them £20" and their only argument would be reduced to "you paid late".

The letters would still continue, but you'd just ignore.

You bought a parking period as per the charges applicable, but a third party company now want money from you because they say you failed to help them with their scheme that saves them money by making you do all the work to comply with their technology, why would you consider paying them?

I think there may be some confusion, are you saying that you had your appeal accepted (therefore you have an email/comm stating that you have had the PCN cancelled)?

If so, there is nothing to pay and I would forward this to ZZPS stating that it has been cancelled, asking them to cease contacting you as the matter has been dealt with.

    Unless I've misunderstood..

No, the appeal was successful and I missed the email saying:

"We are writing to inform you that after further investigation the above Parking Charge Notice (PCN) we are willing to cancel if a £20.00 administrative payment is made to cover the costs of issuing the PCN. Please be assured this is the last you will hear from us in regards to the above PCN once this admin fee is paid. However please note that this PCN will be cancelled at the admin cost as a goodwill gesture. This PCN was issued due to you entering one or more digit from your registration incorrectly.

Please ensure to always enter your vehicle registration correctly when parking in the future."

Due to missing this email it now has been revoked and continued to debit collectors.

Well thank goodness you didn't pay!

You owe nothing at all and must ignore the £170 threatograms - see the 4th post of the Newbies thread about these letters. Do not be spooked.

But that email says nothing about timescales for paying their silly admin fee, it could be a week or a year!
In any case a minor input error should be a total cancellation without any "admin fee" only a major error invokes an admin fee according to their ATA COP.

Well, depends if the keying error is major or minor.

For a complete wrong car it's twenty quid.

Let's not forget we're trying to avoid a £170 court claim landing on the mat if we can.

But this is about a major keying issue in January. Not a typo. "Wrong reg in parking app" said the OP.

However the Government said in 2022 that all of these should be cancelled outright.

The admin fee merely delays the case with the victim still sued for a stupidly inflated sum. As is happening here.
