Notice pay from the government

Myself and my colleagues are all being made redundant but finding it all a bit confusing.
Some of us are entitled to 12 weeks notice pay but on speaking to an insolvency helpline we were told that you can have some of your notice pay taken away if you don't try and claim benefits even if you know you're not entitled to them ?
She also told us that if you don't make an effort to look for work during the 12 week notice period then they can also take money off it ?
What proof do they need ?
Also JSA contribution based. We're thinking you can't claim that until your notice period has finished ?
Also if we get another job but on less hours - for example we do 16 hours but in the new job we do 12 - I'm thinking the 12 hours will be taken off the notice pay each week so we would still get 4 hours notice pay from the government for 12 weeks ?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

I would get down to the jobcentre straight away and let them know you're being made redundant. They can help with the details and any benefits. If you haven't already done so, it might be worth getting independent legal advice on the redundancy settlement agreement.

you refer to redundancy but also to an insolvency helpline.
Is the company going into administration or are do thy remain a going concern that is looking to make some of the workforce redundant ?0 -
