This seems to have changed since I last bought a car.
The guidance on the new keeper slip is very bad. They tell you not to send it to the DVLA on its own and then just start banging on about vehicle tax.
The garage I bought the car off did everything they are meant to do months ago , I sat there and watched him do it online, it’s very standard they sell a lot of cars
i taxed the car immediately yet I never received a V5.
on the slip. It says if you don’t receive it in 4 weeks to fill-in a V62 to apply for one but they omit the part where have to pay £25.
why should I pay £25 for something because they aren’t doing their job

You don't need to pay £25 if the V5 hasn't been received. You should be able to check online when the last V5C was issued and see if it's actually been processed (it should have if you saw them do it online)Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

Did you get the email confirmation immediately when the dealer registered it in your name?0

The V5C was probably produced with no human involvement. Most likely it went astray in the post.0 -

Sounds very much like the garage didn't process it correctly.0

Actually they don't. On the V62 form notes, very clearly, it says:
"You do not have to pay a fee:• if you’re the new keeper and the previous keeper failed to tell usabout the change, you must have the green new keeper slip fromthe current V5C"0 -

I had the same in October last year. I was convinced the dealer hadn't done it right. Sent in the slip two months later, nothing to pay, and got a V5 within 10 days.0
