Nothing good will come of you replying to try and argue your case. Do you think they will change their mind?! You will sound whiny, unprofessional and unable to accept feedback, which will confirm to them that they made the right decision!

Honestly I think your best bet is to look for another job. You'll just resent it every day you stay there. I feel for you, I was in a similar situation where I covered for my boss when they left, did a measurably good job of it and then got passed over for an external person when it was advertised, who I then had to help train. I started looking for another job, got one within 2 months and ended up happier (and better paid) than I would have been if I'd stayed!

    Good luck.

They can employ whoever they choose to. If you were at my company for 15 years, but I chose to give a new deputy position to a Norwegian man that spoke no English, have a criminal record and black marks galore. Ultimately the company chooses who they hire.

In my younger days a Team Leader position came up. A few applied....they gave it to an 18 year old recruited from a job fayre instead. People were not happy. They were sacked after a few months for gross incompetence. Karma....

Personally, I would look for another job. You have seen what they think of you...Your grievance will fester. I've been there on that one. I asked for a transfer in my case.

I have the exactly same problem and it is very clearly because they either like the woman and she is happy to let the male management have a good time with her or because you simply do a good job and they want to keep you as a worker bee. There is also a girl at our workplace that has been horrible since joining but due to most management at the company being quite literally perverts who discuss which female employees they find the hottest they are now promoting her every year and it is very clear that this is without merit. They even have other senior employees review her work frequently. There is nothing you can do about this besides leaving. This is just how it works everywhere and anywhere, including the highest ranking positions in the entire world including the POTUS. Think back about the comments he had made about women and now he is... POTUS. People with ill intent will always be the ones in charge and will always get ahead of everyone else. Just accept it and move to another company. I would not advise staying whatsoever as even if you think that it will be fine for a moment you will keep feeling distressed over and over again which will eat at your health. Just leave and you will probably find something good where you be offered a better position

This is the worst thing you can do because the new woman will be going to him for help and will have no choice but to help her unless he wants to refuse and make himself an even bigger problem. If he does help she will be getting all the credit and they will say that they made a great choice by hiring her. The only thing OP should be doing is resign immediately and look for a new job at a company where he will be promoted quickly as long they base their merit process on actual merit. If he is as competent as he says he is the old employer will run into problems. Nothing will change from him staying and he will run into health problems due to all the stress and being treated like a dog.

    1) my boss went off piste and I should have gone up against her and basically executed a mutiny.
Why would it have been a mutiny ?   Anybody with management qualities would have taken it upon themselves to either to challenge or inform more senior management of the situation.  Not sit back and plan to take the role when it becomes vacant. End of the day your employer pays your wages and your personal responsibilities are to them.

If the OP reaches the conclusion that a change of employer is their best course of action, I would strongly suggest the alternative sequencing to that suggested.  Secure the new job first and then resign.

OP has clearly been at the company for a very long time and has a notice period of several months so he should be handing in his notice as soon as he can. No employer is going to wait several months for him.

The OP hasn't said they have a long notice period, and being long serving with a company doesn't mean that will be the case.  Leaving a job without something to go to, or a lot of savings behind you, is a very high risk strategy.

I was told by a “concerned party” to respond to “have something in writing”  that I don’t agree with it as a number of other issues had taken place…
No other roles are nearby so it’s a bit tricky leaving..
