topyam - you will be in the same situation as I am - none of the records which MUFG/Link had exist any more, and Computershare only have what dates from when they took over.

To me this seems like a regulatory hole which ought to be plugged - when the registrar changes the new one should be required to on-board all the historical data of the shareholders.

You could try writing to the Company Secretary of the company involved. Explain what you are trying to do and the troubles you have had with the registrars and ask if the Company Secretary can assist you at all.

And yet if you'd kept your own records you wouldn't have this issue. As I stated it's better not to rely on third parties but you are where you are.

The notion that a business should keep records in perpetuity will smack right up against privacy laws. They must have a legitimate reason to retain data or transfer it from one business to another when the registrar is changed. Otherwise, records should only be kept as long as necessary. They don't have a customer relationship with the shareholders, so it is a matter for them and their customer (the subject company of the shares) what is necessary to provide the services being paid for.

If there is a belief that regulation is required to make registrars more like investment platforms, then what level of ongoing fee should they be charging customers that require this new information safeguarding service? Needless to say it would be more than it would cost a diligent investor to keep their own records.

In my case, I inherited the shares and the original owner is deceased. So I am forced to rely on these third parties.
