My spending has been rubbish lately... Mind you, it was mainly gifts for myself bought with money given to me at Xmas, but I didn't save nearly as much as I'd hoped (read: none).
Like pollyanna said, budgetting yourself some guilt free spending cash goes a long way. You can do what I do which is to open a separate bank account and pay a monthly sum (or weekly, if you're short on will power) into it which is yours to spend on anything you like. I prefer cars, booze and women, and then the rest I waste.
For the past year I've given myself £100 a month, with some occassional top ups, which even I've found is quite a lot of money when you get used to not spending. Having just paid off my grad loan, this will increase to £150 a month, and I hope that I find myself not spending all of it.
Spend less than you earn! I've seen some advisors break it down thus: 50% on what you NEED, 30% on what you WANT, and 20% to SAVE. For me, that was too generous, as I don't have any dependents or other financial burdens, so I've worked it out for 2008 to be approximately 65% SAVE, 20% NEEDS, 15% WANTS.
I'll be saving £650+ each month and living like a grotty miser.Student Loan Company Ltd: 17,805 (2.8%) Overdraft: 500 (Interest free)

Had to go into town for my free computer class. The bus is free, I took with me a peice of Xmas cake and a banana, and had two (free!)cups of tea at computer place. But I had to spend 75p on a birthday card from Wilkinsons, looked in card shops but nothing this cheap. The birthday present is going to be chocolate truffels (free gift from Sainsburys for my birthday) and some smellies that were given to me for Xmas! But I only have Xmas wrapping paper, will have to come up with some idea for wrapping paper, am not buying any
