Replacing shower cubicle

I have a corner shower cubicle in my small en-suite, it's old and the frame has warped so need to get it replaced. Ideally want to get a slightly bigger one so will need a new tray and to extend or replace the tiles. Existing electric shower to be kept (capped off then put back on if re-tiling needed).
I had a plumber to look at it, he said he couldn't fit a bigger one as would need a builder to replace the tray (no idea what he meant by that, he was advertising full bathroom refits) but quoted £740 to remove the cubicle (basically 2 glass doors) and refit with same on the existing tray.
That seemed high to me and if I'm paying all that then I might as well go for the bigger one - so a different guy (without seeing but said ballpark figure £2k). "That's for dry lined plasterboard to fit a larger shower the opening may need increasing enclosure tray and aqua panels". I'm not sure what opening he means!
Are things really this expensive now? I'm in Wiltshire.

How much were you expecting to pay? Are you providing the materials or is this materials and labour?0
