I have flexibility for locations and dates during the year.

I have been reading https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/travel-tips/#keyaccommodation and the section Travel tips for when booking accommodation

I am not keen on the uncovering secret bargains options.

I have looked at Lastminute and Travelzoo – are there other sites like this?

I would be interested in anyone’s feedback about useful sites that have resulted in savings for hotels and self-catering.

Last few yeas I have booked through Booking.com (hotels ect with Genius discount) and Airbnb.

Recently I have found Booking to be a good deal more expensive than other sites, even with "Genius".

I often find reasonable deals on Expedia or Hotels (the same company), particularly with the hefty discount they usually offer to holders of American Express cards. Hostelworld is another good place to look for hotel rooms, as well as hostel spaces.

Seconded. I’ve actually found that booking direct is often the same price or cheaper and often with better conditions.
