For the purpose of a family travel insurance policy Is an 18 year old who has just finished his A levels in June and no longer has to go into school still classed as being in full time education until the end of the academic year?

If the 18 year old has a confirmed place to continue full-time education in the new academic year then I would guess yes.
Otherwise, In the absence of a very precise definition in the terms & conditions I would assume not.

He won't know until he gets A level results whether he will continue in full time education or not. A bit of a grey area I think.0

It would seem his intention is to continue full time education so may well still be covered. The only way to know for sure is to call the insurer and speak to a human being. Good luck with that.2
