Read the m³ value from the meter on the wall if you think gas is being recorded when it's switched off.

What model of IHD have you got?

Many of them will show you a graph which breaks down energise into 30 minute slices throughout the current day.

Can yours do this, and if it can what does it say?

Not if you are with EDF and have a GEO IHD, it does not and never has recorded the standing charge between 0001 and 2300, I've never bothered to stay up any later to see what happens in the final hour of the day.

Best bet for the OP is to use the 30 minute usage data to see what is actually happening, either via their IHD, provider's website/app or a third party app such as Bright or Loop.

On the Usage tab, select "Day" and it will show your use in 30 minute blocks. (this assumes your account is set up for 30minute reads)
