I moved into a bungalow where a combi boiler had replaced a system with a hot water tank and it was dreadful.  The combi boiler had been plumbed so that the water went all the way to the centre of my bungalow where the tank had been then all the way back to the hot taps.  This made for a hugely long pipe run so a very long wait before we got hot water out of a hot tap.  When taking a shower I used to fill a full bucket with cold water before any hot water came out of the shower head.  I used the bucket of water to flush the toilet so it wasn't wasted but the wait was really annoying.
