memory book or memory prompts for older relative

I flippantly said to my dad (late 70s) that we should get him 'one of those books for old people where they write down their stories', and to my surprise he seemed quite interested in the idea.
Does anyone have any experience of doing some sort of structured memory capture with a parent or other relative? If so, what did you find worked? Did you just come up with your own ideas or did you use a book or other service that had prompts? I think I've seen something in the US that sends your relative regular questions by email.
Constraints: we only see him in person 2-4 times a year though we do have a weekly family zoom call. He has always hated writing by hand. He is extremely tech-savvy in a retired programmer sort of way but does not as far as I know have any social media.
