Finally able to give an update.
British Gas have accepted the Ombudsman decision which is to use the gas meter reading submitted in October 2021 as the final reading for January 2025, so standing order charges only for that period. When calculating the final bill now they have to take into account all credits (£800 credit was applied to the account when the reading was submitted) and a further £700 in payments made to the account. A credit of £240 to be applied for failing to meet regulations, a goodwill credit of £40 for the appt that I had been assured was booked when it wasn't and a goodwill payment of £200 for all the stress and inconvenience caused. Also provide a written apology.
Relief is an understatement!
Thank you @masonic for your advice3
