Win 11 not updating to 24H2

I was puzzled as to why my Dell laptop wouldn't update from Windows 11 Pro ver 23H2 to the later 24H2 version.

Others may be stuck with a similar situation to the one I had.

Eventually, after a few weeks of not seeing the update, a pop up window appeared that stated a driver for an audio mixer program I long ago uninstalled was not compatible with 24H2... As I had uninstalled the program, it wasn't something I would have updated, it seems that the uninstall had left behind a driver program that Windows no longer liked.

After re-installing the latest version of the audio mixer, I uninstalled it and Windows update then found 24H2 and updated the OS.

Quite a "got ya" and hard to track down, as until the Windows pop up screen appeared, it wasn't obvious as to why the Windows update never seemed to find an update to 24H2.

It wasn’t Audacity, cannot remember which, but the eventual Windows “pop up” screen gave the name of the program and stated the outdated driver was incompatible with 24H2 and needed updating.

As you will know, Windows has a bad habit of not putting drivers in the individual program directory, and not removing them when you uninstall their associated program 😡

    Which uninstaller did you use?
I always use the free version of "Revo Uninstaller". It removes all the bits that the Windows installer leaves behind.

I used the standard Windows add/remove utility.

The age old Windows problem is that by not requiring the installer to use the program directory, uninstall programs err on the safe side and generally do not remove drivers, as they may be used by other programs as well as the one you are removing.
