What’s up with the new Santander app?! May 16 2025 Answer the new Apple 17.7.7 FAIL update 🤮

I’m running the latest Apple iOS and used the Santander app for years with few problems.
Tonight I tried to log in and it has lots of proud boasts about its new app and then asked me to Accept or Decline its conditions dated 2018?! I did this and had to enter my ID, five digit pin and receive a text and enter the number sent. I usually use biometrics to log in.
Initially no number was sent so did it all again and received the number, input and then got in to my account. Logged out five minutes later. However just tried to log in again and I’m back to square one as if none of the previous set up happened.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Maybe a solution, deleted app, downloaded their app. Filled in details which this time included option for biometrics. Logged out and successfully logged in again.
Update : Saturday back to square one. Asks me to set up account details for the app. So because of the Apple os update there’s no point setting up the app as it will get wiped again after you log out. Amateurs.0 -
Same here, deleted and redownloaded, worked fine since1

Is it an iPad using iPadOS 17.7.7? Apple recently pulled that update because it seems to be causing apps to logout.

I updated to OS 17.7.7 on Wednesday after getting tired of apple prompting me every day to update, but I usually hold off for a week or two so that I don’t become one of the unpaid product testers Apple seem to treat us as and let other keen adopters feel the pain of their frequent glitches. Not saying it’s easy but then I don’t pretend to be a product developer. Seems I got it wrong if it was only released earlier in the week? Maybe I had two updates in one.AstonSmith said:Is it an iPad using iPadOS 17.7.7? Apple recently pulled that update because it seems to be causing apps to logout.
So far only had the problem with Santander app which I had updated on 1st May apparently. Thanks for the insight.0 -
Virgin money app, Gatehouse app, Natonwide app and others NO LONGER WORK as in I need to set up EVERYTHING again due to
Apple iPadOS 17.7.7 FAIL. With their mega profits the least they could do is ensure their updates are fit for purpose.
Worse still is that on researching the update there were many posts on forums and reports almost immediately to Apple about their botched update but they still kept it available for me to update on Wednesday and kept pushing it to me to do so. I will be even more circumspect about trusting Apple again. They want me to buy a new Apple device? Hmmmm.1 -
Today Apple have introduced without ceremony a new update to replace the last faulty one found in a Mac forum not as a notification!. Update 17.7.8 now installed (nothing to lose by waiting this time) and most of the banking apps that would not recognise me as an existing customer now do and without having to delete the app, only one so far that doesn’t is Nationwide.Hopefully other things will work now as well.
Moral of the story don’t trust Apple with any updates in future, wait for a week or two and check forums to see if any problems and also that while waiting they haven’t already introduced a further update which is what caught me out, I had thought I was upgrading from 17.7.5 to 17.7.6 but in reality I was upgrading to 17.7.7 two days after it was released.
Dont think Apple themselves have made any official statement about this nor the media picked up on it with Forbes keeping their original story about upgrading asap for security etc even after it was shown to be a disaster.1 -
No such panic on iPhones, which are by now on iOS 18.50

Yes this was an update for up to old iPad 6 and other devices from around 2019 that are deemed too feeble to take the 18 that newer iPads get so are stuck on 17 and probably about to get their security updates stopped as its policy to stop updating after about five years.friolento said:No such panic on iPhones, which are by now on iOS 18.50
