I run a small livery yard, I am classed as a sole trader.  I have a Ruby Electricity Business Account.  It is time for my renewal.  Before I renew with them, I am looking for guidance? Do I have to have a  business account?  Should I shop around? Thanks.

From what you describe you are a business and you need a business account.  What is your actual annual consumption - I hope there are no estimated bills ?

My experience of brokers has not been good - I suggest you ring around the suppliers direct.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

!00% agree, always gone direct for business, far too many pitfalls and downright deception with some brokers.

BES was taken over by Ruby Energy and neither are brokers. Thanks for the advice.

I have not been in contact with other suppliers yet because I wanted to know if I should also ring domestic companies but now that you have advised me that I have to have a business account I will start ringing around.
My annual consumption from April 2024 to 2025 was 623 KWH

Just to double check as you've not said - your livery yard isn't attached to your house by any chance?

House and Stables are on same plot of land but I have two meters.  House meter with  EON and the Stables meter with Ruby.

Ok, while you've got a separate supply you're probably stuck with a business tariff for the livery yard.
An option would be to get an electrician to run a supply to the yard from your home, with a sub-meter so you know how much to allow as a business expense. You could then have the business supply disconnected.
