Morning all. Well, yesterday's weather was such a disappointment - the sun did make an appearance but not until 3 pm and then it was only for half an hour - and it was very chilly, thanks to the wind coming in from the North East. I had to put the heating on for an hour last night. Today it's sunny but as to how warm it feels might be another matter. The summer clothes must be feeling redundant!
I got everything I needed yesterday from Sainsburys and, apart from milk, shouldn't need any more food shopping for the rest of the month. That's the plan anyway as I'd like to be able to claw back some of last month's overspend.
Today is the usual Friday admin including making a list of possible meals using what I already have. In fact, I'll be on miser mode for a while since savings have taken a bit of a bashing over the last few months. Tbf, there have been some big one-off expenses (funeral for DH, pre-paid funeral for myself, new glasses, fridge/freezer, microwave and decorating supplies) but there's also been too many smaller purchases that have drained the reserves. Time for Make Do and Mend.
Another job for today is to take a look at a new fixed rate plan for energy since my current one ends in just over five weeks' time. After that, I want to have a search round for anything else that can top up the CS bag; a trip there next week is on the cards. Tea tonight is battered cod and mushy peas, fruit salad for afters. Hopefully a better night's sleep - the Sandman deserted me last night so an early bedtime might be in store.
@camelot - Commiserations on the ever-worsening cold, fingers crossed for an improvement over the weekend.
@Chrisca - That's so annoying! Mind you, it will no doubt be repeated at some stage - I think I've exhausted all the Vera programmes.
@Gers - I used to be perplexed at what my children were learning at school and they're in their 40s! Heaven knows how it is now - certainly nothing like I remember.
@remmie - Rant away - SM shopping gets more and more like a DIY exercise. I think the only thing we don't do is stock up the shelves! I know some people like self service tills and no doubt they have their place but I won't use them.
@TA - I'd forgotten about the long list of Don'ts after cataract surgery. I have glasses for distance vision that I use mainly for watching TV but they're also useful for being able to see bus numbers or SM aisle information.
Right, it's time to stir my stumps, no more dilly dallying. Have a good end of week and an even better weekend. As usual, hugs for the poorlies, take care all. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning all
Lovely bright day here and meant to get quite warm later I have washing in the wm so that can be hung out later. Dogs to be walked this morning.
We are having a new Internet provider being installed later it’s a community fibre one and free for the first 3 months and then half the price of our old one afterwards so a bit of money saved and much faster too he will be here for about 1.5 hours so I hope he comes sooner rather than later.
I had to pick mum up from the hospital last night at 9.30 after a small procedure so got her home and into bed then came home and had such a good sleep I think the previous nights had caught up with me, I feel so much better for it.
Not sure about dinner tonight will go and have a look after this.
Camelot hope you feel better soon xx
TA don’t do too much you need to recover xx
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Morning everyone I’ve just got in from the food waste volunteering I’m going to have a cuppa and a quick sandwich before I go to the charity shop to do my bit I must admit I enjoy it then back to chops mash and peas tonight I’ve got it all prepared just to turn on when I come in hubby has just said I don’t know why you don’t just go to the fish shop on a Friday it would be easier I said it’s not hard to turn a pan on try it sometime and think on it’s over 20 pounds for us both to have fish and chips I think he still thinks they are a couple of quid rant over . It’s nice and bright I put towels on the line before I went out they are nearly dry we have a good breeze going but I still think it’s chilly on a night . Remmie I think everything is getting more difficult I was just saying the other day when I first got a house I had a little biscuit tin and everything that was important was kept in there my insurance book house papers birth certificate everything now it’s all supposed to be paperless to make life easier I’ve never had so much paperwork draws full of the damn stuff or is this just because I’m getting old . TA take it easy . Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing11

Morning All
It was very chilly here yesterday and today looks like it will be a repeat.
DH didn't test his fish dish on the BBQ so fish now in freezer until we have some warmth.
TA glad your procedure went OK I'm sure once the eyes have settled it will be easier.
Chrisca I was interested you said you had an issue with Sky as we had the same last night, it seemed to freeze so we needed to reset a couple of times.
Just seen an article that says this was affecting Q boxes and switch on and off was right thing to do, phew.
RR hope your DM had a good night after her procedure
Camelot hope you feel better soon
Gers I don't help my DGC with homework as I'm normally told that I do things the wrong way even if we get the same correct answer
Derek lovely to hear Dawn's godmother and you had such a great catchup and memories
DGD had her last sat yesterday so hopefully will feel more relaxed this weekend
Hope everyone has a good day hugs to all who want them
