Old Trainers!

Hey guys,

I'm having a clear out, and really it's time to slim down some of my trainer collection! I was just going to give them to charity or in some cases bin them. Then, I had a look at vinted, I wad quite surprised - pairs of say Air Force One trainers which I'd think were fit for the bin being sold for 15 quid odd. Madness.

Do people pay half decent money for older trainers - say 15-20 years old, worn, but still looking half decent?! I've got some 'vintage' air force ones, oldskool new balance, Reebok pump etc. All too big/heavy/clumpy for my tastes and comfort now. (Side point, man AF1 high tops are very heavy compared to a nice pair of running trainers!!).

You have to do the bend test. If they split or the sole falls off, it's time for the bin. 🚮 Or they'll be coming back.

He he, yeah I know all about that. I found some old running type tights the other day from about 20 years back, tugged the waste elastic and they basically disinterested in my hands lol

    Interesting question.
I never thought you could sell old, worn out trainers and recently threw a pair of mine away.  A friend at the running club said I should have sold them using an online auction site as they have regularly sold running trainers that reached the end of their useful running lives.  I expressed my amazement and the rationale was, apparently, some people like these trainers as an image thing with the premium brand plus the pre-worn factor helps to make them be able to present themselves as more sporty than they really are which, apparently, is a good thing for impressing prospective people to meet on some "apps".
I have no direct experience or method to verify anything about either selling worn out trainers via an online auction or selling yourself on an "app".

Interesting, I guess as somebody who's a bit 'eww' at the thought of second hand shoes it's still perplexing but I guess it takes all sorts!

Some of these vinted things looked like they'd been used at a dozen festivals - which I guess perhaps illustrates your point - wow, I'm so cool because my trainers have seen some action, ergo so have I!

I reckon I'll end up with about 10 pairs when I'm done.

People even list shoes with mud on the soles without a cursory brush-off, I don't know how well they sell though.
