    * If the agent goes bust and never passed on the money to the hotel, then S75 protection DOES help against the agent which failed to supply a booking. 
    * If the hotel goes bust and fails to provide the accommodateion then the chain is broken as you mention. 

    So ideally book directly with the hotel, paying via credit card so there's only 1 party involved and you have the S75 protection if they fail. 

    However if you are going to book via an agent because say the price is that much better, then its alll the more important to pay via credit card.
