so I just went into the garage and found 3 big cardboard boxes that I apparently had stopped seeing, that's the cardboard recycling bin filled!

How funny you've posted this, I almost knocked at someone's door tonight to ask for the gigantic box they'd received their new bath in!  The couple have twin boys so they might make it into a fort, who knows!

Yes, I keep packaging.  It has come in handy when I sell items but I haven't got a loft and my packaging hoard is a bit out of hand.

There's five or so 'permanent' cardboard boxes scattered around the house that are cat beds/toys, but other than that, they're recycled ASAP. I have a couple of jiffy bags in a drawer, but it's very rare for me to send things so there's no point saving many.

We keep all the paper/cardboard packaging 'just in case it comes in handy'. It hardly ever does and once a year (November 5th) we have a giant bonfire and it all miraculously disappears in a couple of hours after dark.

I buy a lot of stuff online both personally and for my business which means I get a lot of cardboard boxes and bubblewrap, I also sell a few things on ebay so as I have the space, I keep all boxes, bubblewrap, jiffy bags and plastic envelopes and just use them to send my sold items. It's very rare I've had to alter a boxes size to suit an item as I have loads of them to choose from which saves time when dispatching. If I didn't use them for selling, I'd have to go out of may way to dispose of them as there would be too much cardboard to fit in the recycling bins. similarly, if I threw out everyting I sold on ebay I would have no room in the black refuse bin, so it's a balancing act really.
the amount of space I need to keep a stock of boxes and packaging is , approximately, three cubic metres,  aka my hallway cupboard which doesn't seem unreasonable to me

I keep about 5 padded envelopes and 2 or 3 boxes of various sizes on top of the fridge. I usually need 2 boxes at Xmas for posting presents and maybe 1 or 2 through the rest of the year. There’s no point in keeping more than I need.

We keep most of our boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, packing paper, polybags, jiffy bags, etc, as we sell on ebay and my husband also needs packaging for the models he paints and sends to clients.  We call it  Box World and we have had a couple of avalanches in the past  :D It saves us so much money on packaging materials that we don't mind having to fight past cardboard every so often.

As a perpetual eBay seller who is constantly putting all the stuff I don't need up for sale, I'm often actively seeking out cardboard boxes and bubble wrap to the point where my friends and family always keep back the choice examples which I've asked him to keep an eye out for (Royal Mail small parcel size or smaller, double (or ideally triple) corrugated... no shoe boxes!).  :p

Some are disassembled and stacked flat, some are nested inside of other ones in the garage and some are just lying about the place. I know deep down that I don't need nearly as many large boxes as I currently own, but the thought of simply discarding them troubles me just in case I ever need one exactly that size (like all those odd bits of wood I also keep in the garage)! :D
