our electricity meter has now expired and needs to be replaced immediately in line with government regulations under the
Electricity Act.
Nearly every month i get asked to change to a smart meter which i decline. Is the above statement correct or is my energy provider trying a new tactic????

They're correct. If you don't agree to a smart meter they could in theory terminate your supply, although it more likely they'll get a warrant and come to change it without your consent.N. You can look it up on the schedule of nationally approved electricity meters.

A meter change is really pretty simple - you will be without a supply for a very short time while they make the change (IIRC when we had a meter change some years go it was around 30 minutes max) but nothing more significant than that. If the meter is out of certification just make an appointment that suits you for them to come and change it - it's no great drama! (As opposed to refusing to allow it at which point them getting a warrant DOES turn into a bit of a drama!)

I wanted to get a smart meter but it was taller than the meter it was replacing and would not fit. So nothing was done and the installer just went away.Reed0

OK, even that 'shoe' may be too tall for the space available, but it works in many situations.I'm not being lazy ...
