Yes, I've no doubt they wanted to bump up their April registration figures. Although you would have thought their bonus would depend on the actual final payment date.
I have already received the V5 form.
If you SORN it, let the dealer know in case they want to take it for a spin.
As for insurance, it's not actually on the road yet, so chances are it won't be picked up uninsured.

It might even be a software upgrade which is needed. Just takes time for the relevant technicians to get to every vehicle and apply it.0 -
Could have been delivered damaged or with missing parts. If it's registered already, I'd want to be seeing the car.0

The tax rate is variable the first year based on Co2 and that payment is paid at the point of registration.
After that it reverts to the flat rate.
If you don’t take the car, whoever takes it won’t be the first keeper so that will affect the price - so they shouldn’t be leaving you out of pocket as a result of a decision they made to hit their own targets.0 -
Thank you all for your interesting comments.
I am going to try and find out from the dealer about the "parts upgrade" and what it actually entails. If it sounds reasonable then it will allay my fears about the car being damaged.
From what I have gleaned from some Kia forums a lot of dealers are underplaying the delivery timescales. I was quoted approx 12 weeks. I know there is one Kia dealer who publishes more accurate timescales online and they were quoting 20 weeks. I am looking at around 24 weeks af the earliest. I don't think we would have gone with a (new) Kia had I known the true delivery timescales.
Incidentally I have had a look at the government road tax checking website and the start date is 1 May 2026. So they did add the extra day. Thank you for suggesting that.
I am presuming my seven year kia warranty will start on my purchase date. Not the vehicle registration date. I know its only three or four weeks difference but it's the principle.

Kim_13 said:Check the car on the government vehicle tax checker - it will either show tax due on 1 April 2026 (if they didn’t add the extra day) or 1 May 2026 (if they did add it.) If it shows as 1 April, ask them for £16.66 to be paid to you - as the standard rate is likely to be £200 by 1 April, £200/12 is what they would have cost you with the failure to pay that extra day or to wait until the car was almost ready to be handed over before registering it.

So not sure where you get the £16.66 from?
Op has not mentioned car either. So VED could be anything.Life in the slow lane0 -
It's a Kia Stonic 2.
Which is one of the cheaper models in the Kia line up. Bearing mind I was advised that Kia are having "transportation issues" I am hoping Kia don't just prioritise their higher end models.0 -

Op has not mentioned car either. So VED could be anything. He was suggesting that registering & taxing the car in April means that the OP has lost a month's tax (assuming he takes ownership in May), and at the end of his ownership will need to purchase an extra month's tax, which is currently worth 1/12 of £195.So the OP will be out of pocket by 1/12 of £195 over his ownership of the car- (the replacement cost of that single lost month, not 1/12 of the first year tax payment which could be between £10 and £5490) and should be paid this.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
