Building control - are we due some documentation?

I live in a flat in a Victorian house that's split into 4 flats
We had some relatively minor building works done involving the replacement of 4 lintels and the building company got us to pay the local Council's building control department about £400.
I presume that the local Council came and overlooked the work at some point although I never saw anybody.
We're now needing to pay the builders the final 10% but we've not received any paperwork showing the Council approved the work. Does this come to us from the Council or does it usually come via the builder?
Thanks

When I had work done a couple of years ago, the council emailed the certificate to me as a PDF - I was the one that applied for it. So I'd guess whoever has applied for it will have received the certificate - talk to your building company. You will also be able to search building control records on your council website - you won't see the certificate, but certainly a description of the work and whether its complete.1

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
