British Gas dual fuel to 2 separate accounts
I’ve just had a mad online chat with a British Gas advisor about changing tariff.
It would be easy, I thought, to change to the EV tariff through the dual fuel deal we have. Not so, apparently as my GAS would go up, by 30% on the standing charge, and nearly 9% on the unit rate. So I contacted them by chat. In essence I’d accept the EV rate, but queried the Gas uplift, as I could get a better rate by having the EV electric rate as a single tariff, and gas on another tariff, but not dual fuel. Not possible I was told. After some back and forth for about half an hour, I can’t just leave a dual fuel and move to 2 separate accounts.
But I can! There is a way round it. Astonishingly, the suggestion was to cancel the Gas, move to a different supplier temporarily, then set up another British Gas account under my wife’s name and claim the £100 referral after moving back. Basically we’d be £50 better off after paying the exit fee, and BG would be offering me an even better deal than I had on the Dual Fuel deal.
In reality, we’ll see how this works out.
