If she wanted money she would need to take out a loan.mar< said:

I think OP was saying should her daughter take the loan, then the daughter would short for the duration the loan repayments have to be made.
That said, I'm another one perplexed as to why the daughter would need a loan given she's received a backdated wages payment enough to nullify her claim for a month.
The claim was nullified for two months.
But I expect questions would be asked as to what has happened to the money. What has happened to the wages? Why can she not use that?
You have not explained that.0 -
Is it possible the advisor meant she would have to take out a loan if she needed money from UC?mar< said:

I don't think anyone is obliged to take out a DWP loan. People can choose to apply for a loan, depending on their circumstances, and DWP will consider the application.mar< said:

People would only be able to advise further if you said where the monies your daughter received are? Have they gone to savings and taken her over the limit? Has she spent them?
In either of those scenarios, she would rightly be expected to support herself until she was in a position to be eligible again for UC support.
If there is a different explanation as to what happened to the monies, others may be able to provide accurate / pertinent advice if DWP have made an error.

A rough calculation making the assumption that the claimant is under 25 and has no housing costs is that they'd have a UC entitlement of £316.98.
For one payment of wages to nil an award of UC for 2 assessment periods would require the wage paid to be in excess of £3076.
It's unfortunate/annoying/frustrating etc that the late payment of wages may have meant that they missed out on £633.96 of UC payments but the expectation is that with at least £3076 of wages received, they don't 'need' £633.96 of Universal Credit for those two assessment periods.1
