Backpacker insurance when already departed

Hi, my son has been away travelling for 18 months and his current policy expires next month. They won’t extend it any further yet he doesn’t plan to come home until Christmas. Can anyone recommend a policy we can take out for the remaining 6 months? He is in New Zealand.
