Car Accident - Admiral / Auxillius / Haven Insurance

So...some guy drove straight into my car admitted liability all his fault...pretty much bad damaged bumper side, driver side etc...it was parked luckily no one was hurt..

So now the whole process is confusing me a bit now claiming for the insurance...

So original insurance is with Admiral

The gave me 2 options at that point
1) Pay the excess for now which was £500 then reclaim it after
2) Refer to Auxillus - no excess to be paid

They referred me to Auxillus - the Accident management company
Decided to go for option 2 did not want to be out pocket of £500 for some time..

So i rang Auxillus earlier they are the ones that are going to handle the Repair + Cover Car (Both repair and cover car are seperate arrangements) i have yet to authorise the cover car i still need to go through the terms and conditions...and their daily rate of car hire is coming to like £240 quid or so (Why so expensive im not entirely sure!!)

I also have Legal cover with Admiral as an add on which purchased

When i spoke to Auxillus they said now Admiral are out of the equation and you just dealing with us directly with the claim

Few hours later i then get an email from Admiral Legal Team saying we here to help you for any claims / losses etc after sending me some really long word document go read

Then just now i get the above SMS from what looks like its the other drivers insurance trying to negotiate some early settlment from Haven Insurance, i had a look at some of the Car hire they are offering and for what Auxillus are charging for that same price Haven have cars like Aston Martins Porsche etc!

I have a lexus at the moment 2020

Don't need anything fancy just need the car to pop to groceries..

Of course it being a weekend everything is closed so have to wait for monday,

What your thoughts? Use Auxillus or go through the 3rd party insurance to settle?

AMC hire charges are so high because they are the ones liable for any unrecoverable outlays, so if it turns out the third party was uninsured and has no means to pay the hire or liability ends up being disputed with a split settlement they dont get paid (in full).

You also now may have a bit more of a fight if the third party insurers have offered you a vehicle prior to you taking Auxilis up on their offer. If you do go down the AMC route make sure you make them aware BEFORE agreeing to the hire.

Third party insurers are normally keen to settle directly as to avoid you falling into the hands of an AMC, some go as far as giving you some cash to deal with them directly. Do note however that as they are not your insurers then you have no right to go to the Ombudsman if you are unhappy with their service in some way.

Could i potentially use Auxillus for Repairs and the other company for the Hire Car?

Unfortunately i already instructed Auxiullus yesterday about the Repairs to make a start - (Well it was done over the phone call they said garage will be in touch but heard nothing from anyone yet) and they have emailed me some Long Hire Car Agreement Document which i have not signed or anything not really comfortable with all the jargon being used

Will i still have to notifiy Auxillus i dont want to use their car hire and instead go with the other insurance company? or can i just tell Auxillus dont need a car hire

As far as i am aware the "Repair" and "Car Hire" are both seperate altogether?

You would need to speak to them, its technically possible to do credit repairs only but their margins are much thinner on repairs than hire and most, were you to present from the outset of only wanting repairs, wouldnt be interested.

I suspect given nothings booked in yet etc that if you call Auxillus they'll say to do all with them or all with the insurer.

Accident management companies have a bad rep, Auxillus arent a particularly bad one but they are one of the biggest so most well known.

Credit hire is controversial but the majority are ultimately settled and those that are a week or two often without too much fuss. There are some that are disputed and like all things those are the cases we see posted here and on the Motoring section of the forum. Many cases you can see why they are disputed, we've had cases of £15k of hire charges against a car that was written off for £3k.

If a case is disputed then matters can get a little intrusive as they'll want bank statements or credit card bills as part of the evidence to justify why you needed Credit Hire rather than just personally hiring one. You are contractually obliged to support them, as mentioned previously, as long as you do any shortfall is written off but people liked having the brand new Mercedes E Class to drive round in but suddenly dont want anything to do with it when bank statements are requested etc.

Many years ago as soon as we stated to an AMC that we had no need for an overpriced hire car for 2 weeks they didn't want to know and I sorted out the claim with the third party myself.

Needless to say this was an AMC that went bust, because the whole business model was based on having a huge fleet of financed vehicles they needed to hire out at expensive rates.  Repairing cars was a side hustle.
