Cooker hot at top

My old cooker was always hot on the outside at the top of the oven. The seal on inside was worn. So given it's age I got a  new one two years ago.
My newish one is hot outside in position shown in picture and is stained. I'm thinking it's normal as the seal looks fine. Is it?  I cook in oven then go to use the clicker to light a ring to heat something else and just wonder if it should be that hot. Is it normal.

It does look like it's overheating the undersides of the clicker and of the timer knob - they're turning brown! I wonder if the door seal is working as it should?

Another thought: do you often use the grill with the door open? I was surprised when I first noticed that the instructions for my electric cooker said the door should always be closed when using the grill (broiler for any American visitors). I grew up with gas appliances where the instructions said exactly the opposite!

I think you're right. On closer inspection I can just see with a torch that the seal at the top on both sides isn't snug. There's slight gap.
It's high level grill so oven door never left open.
I suppose that door maybe not closing tight enough as I. An push it slightly and gap is gone.

This fix below has worked. The gaps are gone. You cover the door hinges with some cloth and gently close the door and then remove cloths.
Have opened and closed lots afterwards and still door close fully with no gaps..  Hoping it is same after cooking in it.

Nice one, glad it seems to be sorted - and thanks for reporting back with progress. Here's hoping it helps in the long term.
