Android mail delays

Why does my phone have a delay of several hours from mail being sent to arrival on Aquamail whereas Gmail (program) is virtually instantaneous

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

    Never used Aquamail, what is the setting for frequency of checks for new mail?
