Cancelled electricity & gas charge

We recently moved from Scottish Power to Octopus energy. We were out of contract so i didn't see it as an issue. However upon receiving the final bill we were charge £863.64 for Cancelled charges. I have tried contacting Scottish power but we didn't receive a logical reason. Has anyone else has this issue? and why exactly am i being charged so much?

What was their "illogical" reason?

@KHoppy      Is this a business or domestic supply ?    You talk in terms of "out of contract" and "cancellation charges" more commonly associated with Business supplies.
