The stickiness is caused by greenfly / blackfly on the leaves of the tree.
Called honeydew.
Get rid of the green fly on the tree and you will get rid of your problem.
Although how you spray a tree I don't know !!

Unconvinced by sunshine shields, but further googling has confirmed that honeydew can be bad in some years and absolutely not a problem in others. I thought I was going mad because I really couldn't remember it being this bad before.Savvy_Sue said:

Wash and wax it is, just as soon as we can find somewhere sensible to go.

That is why I stopped using caravan covers, always felt dirty after taking the cover off. Did not matter if it was the
woven material or the foil type of cover it always made me instantly feel I need to shower after taking it off.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1 -
Pleased to report that the problem almost vanished as soon as we got some rain - and it's not likely to recur this week either!
The sheets I was using to keep the worst off will never be the same again, but that doesn't matter ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Imagine what a full car cover will be like after a couple of months use. So glad I stopped using caravan covers.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1
