Do I need specific cruise insurance 2 years in advance?

Hi,
I need to arrange family travel insurance, and was about to pay for our standard policy, coving Europe for the year ahead, but I noticed that it asks if we need cover for a cruise.
We have booked a cruise for 2027, so not within the year I'm looking for insurance for, but as far as I'm aware, travel insurance covers holidays even if they are in the future, if something was to happen in the year we're in- for example if one of us was to have a serious injury or the holiday company went bust in 2025, which meant the holiday wouldn't be happening in 2027.
I would appreciate if anyone knows if I need to choose cruise cover in this years policy please? Or just the year that we will be travelling in.
Thank you,
Claire

1) Basic - some policies include this as standard, others exclude anything to do with a cruise unless cruise extension is added
2) Cruise specific perils - almost always will be an optional extra and expands the normal medical care, cancellation etc to also include things like missed port or confined to cabin
You would need basic cover else if you need to cancel now you'd get nothing back at all but you technically dont need the enhanced/cruise specific perils as clearly you won't be confined to your cabin in the next 12 months.
If the policy doesnt give basic cruise cover as standard you are unlikely to be able to add it without taking the full cruise cover.1 -
