Good morning, thanks for starting Gers.
It's a cool grey start here, yesterday wasn't bad, but that cold breeze is always around.
Sorry to see you had a bad night Derek, I find getting up, as Gers suggested, is the best thing. I was up from 2 - 3am the other night, got fed up with lying staring into the darkness. Getting up does help a bit.
Hope everyone is ok and has a good day, take care folks.14 -
Morning All
Bright and sunny, I could really get used to this! Washing on the line and the greenhouse opened.
I had a lovely afternoon yesterday, met up with some friends and we had afternoon tea in the garden. The host has a lovely little Jack Russell puppy who kept us amused and was very well behaved. I had to leave them for a little while to take a call from my Cousin, he's trying to arrange the funeral for my Aunt and wanted to make sure the date and time would be ok for us travelling down, very thoughtful I thought. It did us both good to have a good chat as he's up against a brick wall with his sister (bad cousin!).
Hope everyone is well and you can enjoy the sunshine. Take care. XX

Perhaps the sun will heat up enough to be enjoyable. The nippy wee wind is still lingering around here so no chance of sitting out yet.Yesterday was another five hour exam session for a student with reasonable adjustments. This time is was Higher English critical studies which was more interesting (for me) then Geography. Today's exam is N5 German which I will be immersed in. I would if I could pass it?After the exam all was calm here, no more challenges. I continued with deleting duplicate files from the two external hard drives although it takes me ages as I get really into rarely seen documents or photographs. Which gets me all thinking about what'll happen to them after I'm gone. Despite having assorted family dotted around the world none of the have any real connection to most of those in the photos. My late DM didn't know many of them either! Think I'll just save them and let others make the decision, they take up no room in my house so I'm not faced with them every day the way that physical photo albums would.Amongst the many unknowns there are photos of my late DDad during WW2, he spent time in Libya, Jordan, The Netherlands and other areas. He landed on D-Day +6 so, happily, missed the horrible flurry of action there. Also, I have a photo of my Uncle Charlie's war grave who died in the battle for Monte Cassino in 1944. We will remember them.On a cheerier note - I hope that everyone has a good day. No more decorating? Gentle gardening perhaps? Hugs to all.

Morning all
Bright and sunny here which is lovely but it feels very chilly with that wind still here. Off to work with Rob today yesterday we made a chilli which turned out really well we will see what today brings.
DD is working a late shift today so just OH and I here for dinner there are still two lots of salmon in the freezer so I think we will have some of that with new potatoes and asparagus simple yet tasty.
OH has a day off tomorrow and does dd so we will all be here, OH is taking his dad to look at a little car, he had given up driving and sold his last car but now misses it so much that he is thinking of getting another one just to be able to go to the local shops if they need milk etc, I must admit it would help OH who gets lots of phone calls while at work asking for bits and pieces.
Have good days all and take care xx10 -
Morning everyone
Another grey start here but no significant rain due for ages. Desperately needing to do some weeding but the ground is rock hard.Taking DMum for coffee with a friend who wants help doing a car boot sale - I fear she has high expectations for what she has to sell which may not be realistic. Made a huge to-do list which hasn’t had the desired affect - just feel overwhelmed again but will see how far I can get in the next four ‘free’ days.
best wishes to all

Good morning
A grey start here, yesterday was just the same, we even lit the fire in the evening.
I'm still catching up with washing after the weekend, so will do more today. DD rang yesterday to say she has ordered us a coffee machine which will be delivered today. It's a joint mothers/fathers day present and a thank you for the weekend stay. We don't have one and OH was interested when she was telling us about hers.
Dont know what's for tea, but theres plenty in, maybe an all day breakfast, nice and easy
Sorry I cant remember what asked how my dgd is getting on at school. All seems to be okay as she has moved houses (she boards 5 says a week), so isn't with the trouble makers so much. She is enjoying school now, let's hope it lasts.
Have a good day, and hugs to all who need them. Take care.

Morning all, thanks Gers. Greyish here, bit like yesterday but it did pick up later, lets hope it's the same today. Managed to persuade DH out for a walk to the park, and sat outside with a coffee which was nice, he ended up having a 'breakfast 'sandwich too. The dog at the next table seemed very interested as the waitress announced his sausage & egg one - his owner called him back and said 'you've had enough sausage'
.
Gers, I have a small suitcase of photos and papers which were from my Grans, some really old stuff, including First world war photos. I keep wondering whether our museum would be interested.Remmie, glad your DGD is more settled at school. Ours is struggling really, she misses quite a few days if she's been teased. DS has had a couple of meetings with the head of year, and they did come up with a plan but it's not solved it properlyOc ado order coming later, I couldn't get the earlier slot I like. There will be a choice for tea though, fridge was nearly bare yesterday, so we got something on the way to pick DGS up from school.Hope everyone has a good day.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Good morning all from sunny but chilly Mehefinland
Another rotten night!
@Gers it's funny how specific memorial days jog your memories. My late Father was also in Normandy on D-Day+2 and went all the way up through the Netherlands and Northern Germany eventually ending up in the Isle of Sylt. He was seconded to the RCAF and was building and operating temporary airfields for the Photo Reconnaisance unit he was attached to. He was at Luneburg when the German High command in Northern Europe tried to surrender to Montgomery, and he refused it, only for them to do it 80 years ago today in totality. Dad had many stories of his times during that period, but the one that is the most surprising was of his complete dislike of Vera Lynn ( the supposed 'forces favourite'). He said if her music came on over the Tannoy all sorts of things would be thrown at it - obviously a 'hit'.
More telling were his tales of winter in Eindhoven and the little children hanging around at very early hours of the morning hoping for food. He said he and his mates often went without breakfast, an 'offence' which would have got them in deep water.
Many more tales which I won't regale you with, but like so many men of his generation he didn't talk about his experiences unless really pressed, and even then not until later life.
More council stuff today - meet with the new clerk this morning. She is getting on with it and I am relinquishing stuff at a prestigious rate. Won't know what to do with myself lol
Hugs and spoons as always
