Returning item (eBay)

Bought a pair of shorts aged 15. Brand new. School wear seller.
When they arrived they were huge - adult size. They're big on me!
So I clicked to return as not fitting, but it then wanted me to pay return postage, so I clicked cancel the return stating the seller should be paying as they're the wrong size.
But now I can't seem to open any other sort of return.
I've messaged the seller but not heard back from them.
No physical sizes on the listing but it does say age 15 in them, and I ordered age 15, but they certainly wouldn't fit a typical 15 year old!
Any suggestions?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible to open a second return case once you close one. If the size shown in the shorts is correct then when you opened a ‘does not fit’ reason for return then yes it’s a change of mind technically and if sellers policy is for buyers to pay return then they can insist on that. However if shorts were not as described in that the inner label showed an adult size then a SNAD return could have been opened on the basis you got something materially different to that shown on listing, and then seller would have had to pay for the return.
it’s probably too late now to do anything about this without the sellers goodwill (and even that might be difficult with the way eBay returns are set up) , but does the listing show measurements and if so do they match the shorts you received?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No measurements whatsoever on the listing, but having read some of the other feedback now (duh! hindsight!), it would appear lots of people have found the shorts really big but commented that their child would grow into them. My son would have finished school before he'd grow into these!
I will be patient and wait and see what the seller says, then I guess I could always leave appropriate feedback to let others know to order a smaller size! It's so annoying as they're actually really nice shorts. I originally ordered from M&S but the order got cancelled due to the cyber attack and they're still not taking online orders, hence I opted for eBay. He will be doing PE in his pants at this rate!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

You can open a file a chargeback with your bank or card provider if the item was not as described or you didn't receive it.1

This part of the system stinks and it shouldn't be so difficult to get this changed when an error like this is made. I've had a similar error as a buyer on Amazon and you can change it there with the click of a drop down menu..2 -

The M&S school uniform table shows that for standard boys trousers age 14 - 15 the waists are 28 3/4 - 30 inches and 15 - 16 is 30 - 32 inches. If you want smaller you'd need "slim fit"

The thing is, 15 year olds are adult sized, and with childhood obesity becoming ever more prevalent they can have waists well over 31 inches. Your son being slimmer is great, but perhaps against the trend?

These shorts have an unstretched waist of just over 30", so if you put them on a person with a 30" waist then they won't grip the waist, they just hang, and as boys aren't built with hips, then they would just fall down! The elastic band on the shorts is supposed to be less than 30" so that it stretches a bit and holds the shorts up.
He has other 15-16 shorts which fit fine.
I get that lots of 15 year olds are obese, but that doesn't mean the sizes have changed - you just have more kids buying much bigger sizes! I teach teenagers, so very familiar with the differing sizes!!
I think I will await a response from the seller and then just sell them on the local school group and wait until M&S online ordering is working again!
