Change in AST terms

I have agrred wth my tenants, at their request, to end the tenancy earlier than the fixed term. Is there anything I need to do legally, such as deed of surrender or a new revised AST, or is a simple email chain showing both parties have agreed enough?
Since it is the tenant wanting to leave early and I have no pressing need for tenants to leave by a certain date, I am not concerned if tenant decides to change their mind.

If they're happy and you're happy then nothing else strictly needed. Once they leave, update the deposit protection scheme accordingly.
However usually LLs in that situation do want some certainty to be able to make plans for after they move out. Such as have a new tenant start or book in trades people to do any work needed.0
