Best basic PDF reader which can fill in forms?

I've got a form in PDF format which needs to be filled in and signed, what's the best package to do this? I don't have a physical printer.
I've just spent ages downloading a massive Acrobat file onto windows 11, then it tells me it only lasts for 7 days before I need to pay them, so I'm wondering if there's a free version which can actively fill the forms in. I think I used Nitro on my last computer, but one site tells me it can't edit.
I normally use Windows 11 OS, but presumably I need a touch screen to sign my name so I will need to open with a tablet?

Google 'pdf editor' and upload the file/edit it on there.
If desperate to do a handwritten signature, I'd either take a picture of your signature and crop it, or re-create your signature in something like paint, save it and add the image to the pdf.
You don't necessarily need a touch screen to sign your name, plenty of people do (badly looking) signatures with their mouse, or most commonly just type it:
Signature: J. Smith
Print Name: John Smith
Or:
/s/ J. Smith
(which is widely accepted as a formal signature).

If its the former then Acrobat Reader will certainly work, its 60% likely to work on something thats not been setup as a form correctly for text entries but crosses/ticks etc are all good. You dont need the full Acrobat package for that.
As to signature, personally did my signature on bright white paper with a black pen. Took a photo of it in bright conditions. Adjusted it slightly in a photo editing package to make sure the background was totally blown and with Acrobat Reader you can add the image as your signature... I did this many years ago, I wouldnt be surprised these days if you skipped the photo editing that Adobe wouldnt pickout the signature and drop the background anyway.1 -
Firefox will allow you to edit a PDF and save it1
