Finding reputable tradesmen in London

I'm going to be renting out a flat in Hoxton, London and need to get Gas Safety and Electrical certificates done. So far, every company I look at has great reviews and appalling ones. How can I find tradesmen that I can trust will do an honest job?

To anyone reading:  do not rely on Checkatrade.  A friend of mine found a roofing company on there, who overcharged him by thousands, but more importantly they left a load of asbestos in the roof and in the loft.  Their young kids were hospitalised and are now on a lifetime watch-list due to asbestos inhalation. Checkatrade did NOTHING to help, and would not even acknolwedge them,  A criminal case is still ongoing

Recommendation from someone you know is the easiest way, if not a properly vetted trader finder such as those operated by WHICH or Trading Standards or members of a reputable trade association. I personally would not use sites that do not properly vet traders listed on their website.

There might be a Facebook community page for the area?  Villages here in the NE have pages and people often ask for recommendations for various trades.

I presume that you ae going to let via an agent,

Good agents can sort out these issues for you which is part of what you are paying them for
