RTI disputes

Hello! My job recently changed its pay structure to the last Friday of the month, U/C assessment period 28th-27th this month they have counted 2 months pay in one assessment period, I’ve raised a RTI to move one payment into the next assessment period I’m just wondering from others experience how long it takes? Thanks

It does happen, to many people.  It caused a lot of issues with the COL payments a few years back.

When was your original payday?  The last Friday this month is 30th May and then 27th June, so yes two payments in your 28th-27th AP.

Im not 100% sure, but Ive not seen a resolution to this posted on here before.

Thanks for your reply! The pay date is from Friday march 28th and Friday April 25th, and I get universal credit 3rd of month, so this months universal credit payment had march and aprils payments from work, I raised a dispute the day I got my statement so 28th April.

What's an RTI? Sounds like something I should have known about when I was self-employed. DWP were adamant with me that if I earned too much to get UC in a given month that was that.

That said, you'll be in the same situation next month when your wages land on 30/5 and 27/6, and again in September when your wages fall on 29/8 and 26/9. Conversely, you'll technically have no earnings in the assessment periods that cover most of August and October, so assuming you're on a discounted rate of UC due to working, you should find you get the full rate for those months instead.

As this will keep happening, it's worth doing a 6-12 month forecast to see if the hit to your overall income is worth the hassle of having to raise a new RTI every time (I am NOT saying it won't be). At the very least you'll have a better idea what you're juggling month to month.

You've done the right thing in raising a dispute. Explain how the situation has come about and it needs the income assigned to the correct assessment period, both now and in the future, to maintain a regular payment schedule.

RTI is Real-Time Information from HMRC sending through what employers have reported for wages, and raising a dispute is saying the information is wrong and something else happened in reality.  So it wouldn't have been relevant to you as someone self-employed.

The process of allocating monthly pay to assessment periods in the circumstances noted above can take a couple of weeks. It takes a week or so before an employment earnings team can look at it and then it gets referred to a different DWP team to amend the employment earnings data to align to 2 assessment periods.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

This isnt an RTI dispute as you are not disputing your employers RTI pay.  Its a simple reallocation of 2 monthly paydays in the same AP, 1 of them moved into another AP, which can take up to a week for the team responsible to do after your case manager sends the details to them.  Your case manager will get a reply when its done and they'll review the systems automatic calculation of your UC award accordingly.

Not helpful for the OP but if others might be impacted by this due to pay dates consider the date you make your application to UC as this will determine your assessment period.
