Only real way to get one is to get PIP or other such disability benefit.
Completely untrue. I had a blue badge long before I got PIP, and still apply for renewal without reference to PIP.
I know. Mrs got hers before she got PIP. But the criteria was very strict in our area.
Which is why i used "real" 👍

  • It’s not just about how far you can walk , technically my daughter can walk but she has other medical issues that are taken into account.

when I have to reapply they always send a link that I have to forward to her neurologist to complete .

I have partly done my renewal via a new beta trial online form. It does not ask how far you can walk, but rather, what conditions cause walking problems, whether you use mobility appliances, any drugs taken for the condition and how the condition affects walking eg stumble, limp etc. However, this is a renewal, with only AA so may differ from a first application.

It's not just about how far you can walk. My child is able bodied and receives low rate mobility component of DLA, but we have a Blue Badge. We did have to provide evidence which came from their specialist school and the council provided school transport team.

Yes it's about being able to walk safely, so not just about the physical 'one foot in front of the other' action.

PIP only applies to those under govt retirement age. It is only one of the criteria and is dependant on scores in certain elements.

I got turned down for PIP while I was below retirement age. I applied for Blue Badge and they thought about it for three months and then I got it. (Or perhaps the person dealing with it had a three month backlog, which is probably what happened.)
