Moving from ESA to UC

    Ok, I just thought when you were saying you wouldn't be able to pay the rent that you might have needed to vacate the current property. I hope the process goes ok for you and your mum.

    I should have explained a bit better I meant without applying to UC we won't be able to pay our rent now I'm not working as I paid it fully we have no housing benefit so the only way to get help now would be to apply to UC.

    That's ok, I understand. Was Mum exempt from council tax or getting a reduced rate currently?

    She does get council tax support and her bill reduced and we know when she applies for UC we will notify them of her change to UC

    Yes probably best to some inform the council, but I believe that they will be aware if she was on housing benefit. Depending on the council scheme, if she was paying anything previously may help to reduce that. Some people previously exempt because of ESA  legacy benefits have been asked to contribute towards the council tax. But the council tax schemes are different across the country.

    The Atlas system that I believe they all use between councils, DWP, and UC for sharing any information about claimants.
