ECO4 - the Energy Company Oblication Scheme which we fund

ECO4 is not a government funded scheme and neither is it funded by the energy companies. It is a scheme funded by the supplement you and I have been paying on our electricity bills for years.

Forgive me if my understanding of the scheme and its processes is not exactly accurate but that's not surp[rsiing givingn the way it is managed. The oversight, in theory, is provided by OFGEM but the reality is that the nergy companies decide for themselves what they fund and whop they approve to manage the scheme for them.

The broad objective of the scheme is to deliver energy efficiwency improvements to the most vulnerable in society. In realityt those chosen are more likely, in my view, to be thise who happen to choose an installer (not that most installers actually do the work themselves) with personnel well versed in how to manipulate the scheme for their own benefit.

I could spend hours writing on this subject but I need to psend my time correcting the faults already encountered and arranging for the essential insulation which the scheme is designed to provide using many thousands of pounds of my own money.

Taking valuable vacation time and dollars for obligatory family or friend visits. Usually oblications blow your PTO balance at work, meaning you will not have a real vacation in the foreseable future.

The reality is that there is no such thing as government funded, governments get their money from taxpayers, so their is taxpayer funded, or privately funded.

The energy suppliers do not decide, the rules for the scheme were set by Ofgem in agreement with the suppliers and government ministers, energy suppliers to not get to pick and choose.

That is your opinion, anyone who has looked at the scheme with more than a cursory glance would know that opinion to be factually incorrect.

    Ok...

The reality is if you meet the criteria for the scheme you will be able to use it, if you do not meet the criteria then you will not, the same as pretty much everything else. I, like the vast majority of UK households do not meet the criteria, if I want a heat pump, solar panels, more insulation etc. then I have to pay for it myself, that does not mean that the scheme has been manipulated, lacks oversight, nor does it mean the scheme is faulty.

I got solar PV and a heat pump on the ECO4 scheme, last November. My electricity bill for April was negative, and I am reasonably confident it will be until October.

After installation I two inspections, by different bodies involved, to check that the job was up to standard. The eligibility for funding is administered by the Local Authority, which should ensure the help only goes to those who truly meet the financial criteria.
