So prices vary from £10-£30 on Temu to over £100 at UK retail stores.  What is a decent one for under £50?

I genuinely do not think there is one.

You can probably get a refurbished Nextbase for that sort of money, from the official eBay store.
    Something like this:
Edit to add: check not their store, they have other deals too.

Daughter has a cheap Binatone from Argos.  The quality is surprisingly good for how much it cost.

I would advise to pop onto YouTube and search for Linus Tech Tips’ video on dashcams. It was a few years ago but essentially it turns out that almost all the ones you buy have the exact same camera. Some were claiming high resolution HD so you could read number plates and such, and some claimed night vision. None of them were really much cop. This is why I’m saving for a higher end one that I know passes the Ronseal Test.

I bought a GKU branded front and rear dash cam a couple of months ago from Amazon. I think it's great for the money

    I have a DOD branded dash cam, it’s a ls460w dash cam.
It will be 10 year old in December.
Never failed, or killed a memory car, not even updated it.
    Still works fine.

For the rear I use a nextbase something, a very basic one, does the job but needs the memory card formatting
every month or so. Never done it on the DOD one.
