Octopus Drive Pack

Hi folks

You may be aware that EV Users with Octopus Intelligent Go when your car is charging you get the same cheap tariff for the rest of your house.

I’ve noticed Octopus are now offering the Drive Pack which gives you unlimited EV charging but that you don’t get the cheap tariff, even whilst charging, for the rest of your house.

Any idea how this is possible, or if indeed it is possible?

I understood the reason they didn’t differentiate the charges for EV vs rest of house in the intelligent go tariff is because the only approved measurement mechanism is the smart meter which in itself can’t provide this differentiation?

Hope my post and question makes sense?

The ev charger has to be compatible with the tariff and the chargers are smart chargers, they know how much has gone to the car.

So is the Drive Pack only available for those with EV charges, not 3-pin chargers?

Site says compatible charge or EV

I suspect it will provide all house at 7p (at least for 3-pin charging).

I don't know because it doesn't interest me.

I do know that IOG requires a compatible charger or ev and that you need to do a charge to activate it.

I can't see the point of it unless you can't charge your car at night?

There is a compatible granny lead, the Ohme Go, I have one as my “device” on IOG.

I don’t believe they are available new any more though.

With either a compatible car or charger, IOG knows how much energy has been delivered to the car, they then use that amount to calculate a bill credit to cover the reduction in the unit cost for that amount of energy.
This is only an option for those on their single-rate tariff, not E7.
If you have any other low-carbon products like Solar PV, or a house battery etc. then there is probably a better tariff for you than this one.

With this logic though why wouldn’t they currently only let folks on the IOG tariff get the cheap rate for the car charging rather than giving folks the whole house at the cheap rate during the scheduled slots?

Product not worth it. At best only saving pennies a month. Same with fixed IOG.

At some point they may do just that...
... but the point of the IOG tariff is to let them participate in grid related activities which can earn them money so the extra load can just translate into extra income for them.
