Hi all,

Apologies in advance for a likely quite naive/thicko post.

Having moved into my first property recently, I used the comparison tool and identified OutFoxTheMarket as having the cheapest deal (Fix'd Dual May25 12M v3.0).

In rushing to get set-up I inputted inaccurate predicted annual usage information and the quote/direct debit is set at about £103 a month rather than the £80 it would have been had accurate been used for the calculation.

I still have 6 days till the switch takes place and contacted their customer service team thinking this would be quickly amended. They've come back saying nothing can be done until after the first payment is taken.

Am I worrying unnecessarily and this situation will rectify itself or will I be stuck paying a DD higher than it should be set at? Appreciate usage will be the main factor but wanted to double check my initial balls up won't have repercussions.

do they offer variable direct debit, if so you will just pay for what you use each month?

I don't believe so. Their response has made me a.bit uneasy, makes me want to cancel during the cooling off period.

I wouldn't worry too much, a DD is only is only to add credit to your energy account, and the amount shown on your bill will be deducted from this credit.

As you've only just moved in you don't really know how much you will be using anyway and so the DD amount could turn out to be about right. If your account builds up too much credit you can ask for some back or for your DD to be reduced.

All suppliers supply exactly the same proportion of renewable energy.  If you join say Octopus they don't fire up another windmill to cover your use, and if you leave they don't shut one down and fire up gas instead.

I have seen some on other forums elsewhere state they push costs up per month significantly despite you being ok with costs. One reply on trusted pilot put me off with someone complaining they were in credit with basically tough!
I am moving electricity to fuse its variable tsriff though so you pay for what you use. I will simply budget per month and put by what excess to cover the higher mknths but I will never owe them and they will never hold excess. Electricity only till June when they offer gas
