romantic valentines idea

Hi all, posting under different ID in case girlfriend looks on here.
I am planning going somewhere for valentines day/girlfriends birthday which is a few days before. looking at staying 12th-15th (3 nights)
I was thinking of london (we did it last year and it was great!) its just quite expensive unless I can find a cheapish hotel.I might consider staying 2 nights so its a bit cheaper (no hotel for the night, no meals etc)
Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels? we stayed at one last year but its gone up in price a bit and wasnt really worth paying what there charging now. Looking at spending £300 max for the 3nights but any less for a nice place would be a bonus. have seen the boat thats being converted to a hotel but it looks a bit out of the way of tube stations etc and a bit pricey as well £400 for selected dates.
Shame everything costs so much down there - stayed in a few hotels £60-90 out of London that are 3 times better than the ones you get for £100-£120 in london!
Does anyone have any ideas for places outside of london? (we live in south yorkshire so anywhere closeish to drive or somewhere cheapishly accessible by train. ) Should be able to get somewhere a LOT cheaper and spend more on a meal or something that way!
Thanks for the help!!

You could try another city/ area. Edinburgh is lovely, with lots to see and do and most of it in walking distance. Or Oxford and a day trip out to the Cotswolds. I love South Pembrokeshire and Tenby during the winter - very dramatic, and a number of the local pubs have log fires to curl up in front of.0

I was thinking of that, someone where I work has suggested the lake district. Do you have any recommendations where to stay? What is there to do there except walk? we dont mind walking but dont want to be bored stiff of it because thats all there is to do! would like somewhere or something different thats a bit unique if possible?0 -
hello the lake districk is a lovely place to go. best going to a place called windermere. it has boats you can go out on lots of homley shops, fanastic hotels, some looklike castles, there is a cinerma there it is truly amazin an all the people there are wonderful, there is lods to do you can also go on walks but if you do the walks will be amazing and there are some small waterfalls etc. hope that helps.0

I've not actually been to the Lake District - always keep meaning to go, but never quite manage it. The fact that it never stops raining puts me off a bit.............. Not my first choice this time of year, to be honest. Perhaps you could go on a day trip to Selafield/Seascale. At least it would be dry!0

I'd stick with london. Id recommend Quality Hotel West Ham on bookings.com as a decent place to stay. £65 quid a night for a double & Free on site parking. 5 mins walk to Upton park tube. About 20 mins to central london. But its also easy to get to greenwich and canary wharf in about 10 mins.Be amazed if you can get a much cheaper room on vals night and i think its half term.Area around the ground is a mix of resi then shops, a bit scruffy but felt safe. You stay in one of the exec boxes looking on to the pitch.Good bar open late they do food but didnt try it.No storage space, theres hanger rails, for a short break ideal. They lets us into the room early as well 12 o`clock.I did 3 nights there. drove most of the way late then stayed at a 29 pound travelodge within 30 mins drive so I made the most of our time there. For vals night itself one option may be to get tickets for strictly come dancing at the o2 arena (not my cup of tea but girls do like then slebs) which is about 4 stops from upton park.Dont eat there though massive qs everywhere - eat at canary wharf one stop further or before you go.Id also register with a couple of the free tv show agencies there may be something worthwhile. I got tickets for the T4 unsigned show last time (and you get to the front of the q)I also did the BBC tour which was a bit of a duffer but again a bit of a sleb spotting haven.I have links to financial and bankruptcy advisors

I've just booked those days on Dublin using the Ryanair £5 flights.
Although it says there's a 'blackout period' then it still let me book.
Flights 4 x £5, 2 nights hotel free (using loyalty points) and 3 days fully-inclusive car hire with Opodo for £45 (plus £2 cashback with Quidco).
I'm a lavish romantic, aren't I!!!0 -
THIS thread by BruceyBonus has links to some special offers at the Intercontinental Hotel Group which includes Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn. The 2-for-1 offer is available at some of their London properties for 13-15 February although the rates drop quite a bit if you stay at the weekend (15-17) instead. This space has been intentionally left blank0
