novatech

Orininally I was going to put this under the 5 star forum but have since changed my mind. Recently my computer started smeling of electrical burning so it went back to the supplier, this is another story. Because of this I phoned Novatech and asked for their cheapest barebones computer to include a 40g h/d. Quoted £199 +vat, not the cheapest I know but their usually good and I was in a hurry. Came the next day and was up and running within a short while. When I went to their website I found that I could have got a cheaper one,add a H/d and I would have saved about £50-£75. I sent 2 e-mails to them using their internal system(not sure if this is a diversionary tactic as I received no replies.I then phoned customer service who put me through to the original salesman. After some chat saying how unhappy I was and that I would accept memory etc to make up the difference, he said he would come back to me. He didn't of course.
I then phoned 2 days later but had to leave a voicemail, no reply. ditto yesterday. Pretty sure he is waiting for me to give up. What I want to know is 'am I right to want them to make up the difference as I consider I was ill-advised in the 1st place'?

Tricky one. Did you ask for the cheapest system with a HDD and you subsequently found out it was cheaper to buy a system without a HDD and add a separate HDD yourself. Or did you find the same (or similar) system with a HDD included for less than you were quoted?

I asked for the cheapest base unit and enquired if this included a h/d, not asking if it was attached or not. They replied it had a h/d not stating that it was attached. Once I had a working computer I found they did a slower one(2.2) which did not include a h/d for a lot less but they also did a faster one (2.6) which had they added a drive at £29.00 approx it would have still been about £50-£75 less. Its no prob to install a hard drive and only takes less than 5 mins including unscrewing the case.
I'm not sure if I'm being difficult but a complete novice would not ask for a baase unit so some computer competancy on my part should have been assumed.

Got no luck with Novatech, their customer service is very unhelpful and not interested in getting back to you. Not being cooperative has cost them a complete computer system as well as a laser printer. 'I don't care if you don't adivse your daughter to buy from us' is all I got. The cost of a stick of memory and a cd rw against a new system is a bit of a no brainer really.
Oh well last time I buy from them

Computers are the worst thing to buy for ever falling prices.

I remember the first one I bought 13 years ago. I rang the company a few weeks after buying it saying i'd seen the same much cheaper else where. I don't blame them for not offering me a refund or exchange.

You have to buy them and not look at any prices for at least the next six months, coz you'll only be gutted.

The cheaper price was from an advertising e-mail I received once the new computer was up and running and dated theday I ordered.. Not having a working comp I had to rely on them to give me what I asked for, their cheapest barebones/base unit with a hard disk.
