any experts on mercedes spark plugs ?? !!

Certain engine configurations can be a real swine, my Dads old Ford Explorer 4x4 was 4.0 V6 and swapping the plugs in that wasn't easy.. attacking them through the wheelarchs was the quickest way he found. Pretty much why manufacturers are using platinum plugs, fit and forget for 70k miles.0

biggest part fo the job is getting to some of the plugs, other bits have to be removedI

thanks for the comments .... bottom line is whether the "£130 job" is actually identical to the £210 job (which is then identical to the merc dealer £430 job !!)
and that i'm safe to go with the £130 option ?
i am keeping the car for another few years so important i make the right decision if these plugs will drive the car for the next 50000 miles etc.0 -
sounds like using the right plug is your best option,i didnt realise this was a twinspark.
it probably will be a time consuming job.last v6 plugs i done took 2.5 hours and a lot of swearing with only 6 plugs,so i really dont fancy this one.
if my life depended on it i would not use a merc dealer even to just use thier toilet, they are the biggest bunch of snobby, thieving turds i have ever met. i used the commercial dealers and i absoloutly hate them, they act so snobby but can even do the simplest of jobs properly.
best bet is to find a local merc specialist.thats what i done....work permit granted!0 -
I'd go for the following from Eurocarparts:
Beru- £4.36 each, I have an 89 Cosworth 190 and it runs better on the Beru than Bosch- In fact allot of other enthusiasts feel the same....

Likewise the Brisk (a Czechoslovakian brand) spark plugs make the car a little nicer to drive on the old Skoda 1.3 engines, than NGK/Bosch. So it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same with the one's Jasons mentions, although I would be checking the likely service interval of the alternate plugs.0

vw use beru distributor caps with bosch plugs....work permit granted!0

If you want to keep the Mercedes Mobilo Life cover 100% in force then go for the Merc dealer for servicing. If the spark plugs are listed on the maintenance sheet in the service record then stick with the main dealer too.
If you've had no goodwill from the Merc dealer then consider switching. Our local Merc dealer has a "Classic" scheme for cars over 3 years old with discounts on parts and labour. Maybe find a dealer that has the same scheme near home or work. The man without a signature.0 -

Sounds like an admission their repair costs are too overpriced to me.0
