Giving up my Economy 10 meter
We have an RTS meter which needs replacing
Our heating is an electric boiler with radiators. We also have a log burner and use about 3,500 kw of electric a year - 2300 on night and 1200 on day.
After a lot of phone calls, spread sheets and discussion, we have decided to have our Economy 10 meter replaced with a single rate meter.
Our reasons are this:-
We had our house rewired two years ago and the hot water is no longer connected direct to the E10 supply.
Has anyone else done this?

Our reasons are this:-
- Economy 10 prices are increasing
- We currently make good use of the cheap rate, but a lot of suppliers are not adjusting for BST which means waiting until 2pm to cook our lunch (main meal)
- Flexibility with using appliances - no need to clock watch
- There is more competition in single rate meters suppliers and the opportunity to fix
- Cost will be about £50 a year more

Assuming you might still like to use heat in the afternoon or evening say - would you perhaps be better of on another TOU tariff - like say Octopus Cosy - which IIRC now allows electric boilers as well as ASHP style heating - yes just checked their website"Shift your heat pump, electric boiler or other electricity use and save an extra £250 on your electricity bills."Have a look at their rates vs your e10 ratres. You might be OK - but you would still have to be careful about timeshfiting out of its short peak window (4-7). But otherwise it might suit better than sr or on e10 on rates and daily averages. There are other TOU tariffs from other suppliers too - once you have a modern smart meter.Oh and if the meter database shows you have a restricted circuit meter - they might fit a direct replacement - with a restricted feed. That by sounds of things - you no longer need. So you might want to have a discussion with them before they upgrade you.Its not a biggy - but if your electrician did something in the meter cabinet - their is a small risk - the meter fitter could try to revert to type. Say again driving the old restricted meter tail from a new retricted feed - but suspect most wouldn't do that - if pre warned. Most common modern smart meters in UK now only bill by time - not by circuit (few have a second measurement circuit for the restricted feed only - the way some 2 meter set-ups like my old RTS did to separate the usage by time and circuit).

Scot_39 has beaten me to it, but I was going to suggest Cosy Octopus too. It could be a good match to your electricity use.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

We did look at Octopus cozy but they were quoting 43p a KW for 4 - 7 pm. They didn't work out any cheaper.1
