  • My fixed rate is up end of November and I'd already contacted Nationwide to enquiry about their loyalty deals as decided to do the 5 yr fixed rate at 5.78.

I literally screamed at the computer screen when I went on to check that the rates hadn't changed with all the news and - arrrghh, not only had the rate gone up to 5.98, the devils now want a £299 reservation fee.

    How annoying is that?

Anyway, being a frugal sort, I rang and begged them to let me off the reservation fee (didn't they want my business? - erm...no) and...ahem, I'd only previously already reserved the 5.78 no charges rate already.

That'll teach me to dither. Phew

  • Hiya guys,
If the bank base rate went down yesterday and I'm on a tracker 1.25% above base rate does that mean it automatically goes down or is it up to mortgage provider:confused:

Well the money is in my account, waiting for Monday morning when my lender takes the final payment, I thought I was going to be 'cool' about it but I am getting soooo excited.

I wish I could change my sig to say that the deed is done but I am forcing myself to wait.

Hi Bellsbells and all the great people who helped me out. I was a member on this board last year and you might remember i was moving to a bungalow (council) and selling up. Well here is the update, House sold for £15000 less than i wonted but it is know sold to a young couple and the contracts have been exchanged and the completion date is on Wednesday. Luckily only had a small mortgage and will totally dept free. I hope you all our lucky enough to pay off your mortgages asap. It is such a difficult time but i am sure we will all get through it. Good luck to you all.

  • Well I have had to reduce the amount I am overpaying by due to the imminent arrival of bump. I am not really complaining though, I have managed to knock 14 months off the length of my mortgage since starting overpaying in January which is very satisfying. We are planning on overpaying £30 a month if possible just to keep things ticking along. Money just won't stretch - as you can see from my sig my rainy day savings have served their purpose and are no more. We did buy a new computer when the old one exploded, new plumbing when the kitchen water supply stopped working, a new mattress for baby and insurance for the car and house. So anyway I need to get some savings back as a priority especially as money will drastically reduce when I start my maternity leave.

I am really chuffed about the amount my term has been reduced - it makes it real just how much of a difference overpaying does make!
